Lavender Healing

Posted on January 15 2016

In my opinion, the perfect way to end any long stressful day is with the relaxing scent of lavender essential oil. It is one of nature's most versatile aromatic oils, providing a holistic answer to a multitude of problems - be they mind, body or soul. To truly benefit from this incredible plant, you need to be certain that what you're using is pure essential oil and not just a fragrance.

Unfortunately, a lot of brands will use a synthetic lavender fragrance in their products. Some of which may smell great, but more often than not, they'll be overpowering, but will fail to impart the plant's true benefit's onto you.

So what is so wonderful about lavender essential oil?

It boosts your mood...

Well, the effect that lavender can have on one's mind is incredible, it can be both stimulating and relaxing, an oxymoron I know, but here me out. I recently stumbled upon research from The University of Miami claiming that inhaling lavender oils increased 'beta waves' in the brain, suggesting heightened relaxation of the mind. A further study from 2001 suggested that lavender oil not only reduced mental stress but also increased mental alertness.

Wow! A wonder oil that appears to be able to relax and stimulate one's state of mind - overall improving your mood.

A wonder ingredient for skin...

But it not only has unbelievable affects on the mind. Lavender oil is one of those multi-purpose oils that works wonders for the skin. It has both antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. When neat, it can be used to treat minor burns, cuts and scars. Its antiseptic properties make it particularly effective in helping to treat acne, as it not only disinfects but also helps to reduce skin inflammation. It is a wonderful ingredient to incorporate into your bath and shower routine, it can disinfect body and scalp without a horrid medicinal smell. Its anti fungal properties make it especially effective for treating skin conditions like mild forms of eczema, psorisis and dermatitis.

Oh and let's not forget hair...

It has the ability to increase your blood circulation, making it a particularly wonderful shampoo ingredient! Stimulating blood circulation to the scalp can help reduce hair loss. A Scottish study claimed that 40% of Alopecia patients reported an increase in hair regrowth after they regularly rubbed lavender essential oil into their scalps! And because it can be used as an insect repellent, (one to remember for your summer holiday!) headlice really don't like it!

Our Lavender...

Because we love this essential oil so much, we had to develop a collection dedicated to this wonder oil. Our Lavender and Lime collection uses pure lavender essential oil, which has been steam distilled in the UK. We've decided to blend it with sparkling lime oil, instantly giving our collection a contemporary twist to the more traditional lavender blends available in the market. So if you want to incorporate lavender into your routine and harness its endless benefits, we've got products that can be used from top to toe.

What have you used lavender for and has it helped you?
